Mogwai’s seventh album Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will sounds like something Ray Cappo would say. It’s out next month. You’ve already closed your eyes and nodded knowingly to “Rano Pano,” so here’s another album track, “San Pedro.”

Verizon to Finally get IPhone - Announcement Tuesday
Well, here we are: the Wall Street Journal says Verizon will indeed announce the iPhone at its mysterious Tuesday event, according to 'a source familiar with the matter.' That's all the info the Journal has, but we'd say that all but seals it at this point -- and you know we'll be there live when it happens.
P.S. And just like that, Apple's managed to once again be one of the biggest stories at CES with zero presence here. That's what, five years in a row now?
Update: All Things D has it on good authority that Apple CEO Steve Jobs will be making an appearance at this here event. Of course, even they can't confirm it 100 percent, but where there's smoke...

Flyers Interested in Trading for Jamie Langenbrunner?
Flyers Interested in Trading for Jamie Langenbrunner?: "
The semi-big news out of Newark heading into Thursday night's game between the Devils and the Flyers was that Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner had been asked to waive his no-trade clause. He did, and was a healthy scratch for the game. Earlier in the week, the Flyers temporarily cleared some salary when they waived Michael Leighton and assigned him to the Phantoms (although there was obviously more to that move that dumping salary). At one point in the game, Anthony San Filippo of the Delaware County Daily Times tweeted that Paul Holmgren had not been in the Flyers' suite during the game.
Then, in the second intermission, CSN anchor John Boruk pointedly mentioned that the Flyers might be trying to trade for Langenbrunner, and Tim Panaccio has a team source saying the Flyers are indeed interested.
A look up and down the Flyers' roster doesn't show many areas of real need, but if they could pick one element to add, it'd probably be a right wing with some playoff experience. Langenbrunner certainly has that. But would the Devils trade him to a division rival? If so, at what cost?
At 35, Langenbrunner has been a part of several successful playoff runs on two different teams—the Dallas Stars and the Devils, including winning a Stanley Cup with each. Playoff production is perhaps what he's best known for, with 12 game-winning goals in the postseason highlighting career numbers that include 33 goals and 86 points in 137 appearances. His current season isn't much to judge him on, but that's true of every Devil right now. He topped 60 points in both of the last two season, the two highest totals of his career.
Langenbrunner is in the final year of a contract that sees him earning $2.8 million this season. We're not sure what acquiring his services would cost the Flyers, but if the price is high, I don't expect the Flyers to stay interested for long.
There aren't too many players the Flyers would be interested in trading from the current roster, which has put together among the most goals in the NHL so far this season and continues to flip-flop with the Penguins for the best record in the Eastern Conference. Panotch's article mentions James van Riemsdyk, although only as someone the Devils should want. I don't see any benefit in trading a young player with a ton of potential for the services of a playoff-tested veteran on the downslope of his career. JVR is also under control through next season with a cap hit less than $2 million. He's a keeper, and he's playing hot right now. If anyone's closer to the block, it's Nik Zherdev, though there aren't many teams who would deem a guy projected to score 27 goals expendable, although that figure is based on Zherdev playing regularly.
If no current Flyer were in a deal for Langenbrunner, the Flyers would have an even bigger logjam in their forward lines.
The Devils loudly tossed Langenbrunner onto the trading block and would like to shed salary during this hellish season, so they may want a haul heavy in draft picks in return. Hopefully not too heavy if Homer is indeed involved... We wouldn't mind seeing the Flyers pick in the first round this year, but with a guy like Langenbrunner, there could be multiple suitors lining up for his services in time for the playoffs, which could inflate his trade value.
But sitting at or near first place at any given time, do the Flyers need to make any moves at all?
[Update: Sam Carchidi says the Flyers are believed to have offered a third and a fifth.]

Dear Liam Gallagher - Shut Up.
I'm a huge fan of Oasis, but everyone knows that Noel wrote all the songs in that band, and it may has well have been "the Noel Gallagher Band - featuring his whiny Brother Liam." Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Noel easily could have continued that band on without him for years but he didn't. If Noel is using songs HE wrote during that time period, what the hell difference does it make? For a guy that supposedly only contributed the lyrics "Yeah,Yeah,Yeah" to a whole record, it takes some large balls to talk trash on the guy who made you. Oh yeah, not to mention, Your New Band just sounds like Oasis... So, who's really doing the recycling/ripping off?

The Obsessively Listened to List of 2010
Anyways, music is what keeps me happy most days, snapping out of whatever anxious panic work is providing for the given day, and unfortunately it seems as though I have less and less time to sit around listening as days get busier and busier.
Like most people these days, I spend more time listening to playlists that I've created to take with me wherever I go. This really isn't a new thing for me as when I was younger, it was mix tapes. I made hundreds of them growing up, passing them off to friends and of course, trying to impress the females as often as I could with them. (it never really worked.) I've yet to find a real simple way to do this with the internet, which boggles my mind a bit, but I'm sure it'll surface soon enough.
The great thing about music players like Itunes now is it will literally tell me what I spent all my time listening to during a given time period with the right tweaking of a smart playlist. As the play count rises, I know what songs I've likely annoyed the shit out of my wife with, yet I just can't get enough of. For me what follows was the top of the list for 2010.

Now Microsoft Is Making a Set-Top TV Box? [Iptv]
Not content to sit back while Apple, Google, Roku, Boxee et.al. wade the murky waters of internet television, Microsoft will show off a Windows-based connected TV box at CES this year, according to the Seattle Times. More »
Netflix 'one click' remote button coming to nearly every device it streams to
We got a hint of this when Boxee announced one, but it's clear now that Netflix's plans are much larger as many of its hardware partners including Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, Dynex, Haier, Memorex, Iomega and Roku will also offer one-touch Netflix buttons on remotes for TVs, Blu-ray players and media streamers. It's pretty obvious, Netflix Watch Instantly is a killer app for any connected TV platform at this point and one of the most used features, making access quicker and easier is a no-brainer.

Permalink |Star Wars Blu-ray to get a 'most impressive' announcement at CES from Vader, Fox & Panasonic
Seeing that Lucas & Co. already announced that the Star Wars series would be coming to Blu-ray we're not exactly sure what will be announced on Thursday at Panasonic's CES booth -- please, please, please don't say it's another Avatar-style two year pack-in exclusive -- but the invite promises it will be most impressive. Darth Vader and a number of Stormtroopers will be on hand and you know we'll be ready to pass all information revealed onto you (given the parties involved we're leaning towards some news about a home release of the 3D converted flicks), even if it's just that ol' George has decided to release the prequels ahead of the original trilogy.

MGMT Do Daytrotter
If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing MGMT perform on the back of their somewhat divisive, certainly restless and compelling second album Congratulations, the session they filed for Daytrotter is a good use of time. Tight in the ways you want a psychedelic band honing in on twisty late ’60s sounds to be tight, scruffy and woozy in ways all the same, it’s a four-song addendum to an album that may have raised questions for some listeners but should have been the answer to anyone who’s wondered if their talent and songwriting ability was anything less than the real deal. WSJ: Google plans a 'digital newsstand' to unite all newspapers and magazines under Android's umbrella
The Wall Street Journal has rounded up its cabal of sources today to present another delicious new battlefield in the struggle between Google and Apple for mobile supremacy. Specifically, it reports that the Mountain View team has approached Time Warner, Condé Nast and Hearst -- three of the biggest publishers of periodicals in the US -- with a view to offering their content through a Google-operated "digital newsstand" for Android devices. The appeal for media companies will be an easier route to monetizing their content, apparently, including the possibility that Google could take a smaller slice of revenues than the 30 percent charged by Apple and Amazon. There's also word of developments behind the scenes at Cupertino, where 'several changes in iTunes' are expected to improve the publisher's experience of using the service, including making it easier to offer long-term subscriptions and related discounts. Apple's had nothing to say on the matter, while Google's responded by noting it's always in discussions with publishers and has nothing to announce at this point.

If ice planet Hoth is in Williamsburg, is the desert planet in Spokane, WA? According to this photo, yes—yes it is... or maybe Jabba the Hutt has left Tatooine and is making his way to Brooklyn. Either way, someone make one of these in Greenpoint so we can stage a mock interstellar battle before the real thing goes down—surely some local young creative out there is dying to dress in Leia's gold bikini. Like A Boss (ft. Seth Rogen) - Uncensored Version
Kobe Bryant Posterizes Andres Nocioni
It would have been nice to see the Sixers pull off the upset, but I'll take the good effort. It's also interesting to see Evan Turner starting to play well now that Iguodala is out with the achilles injury. I don't think those two (Iguodala/Turner) can co-exist with Jrue Holiday on the court at the same time. They all need the ball in their hands, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the "trade Iguodala" chatter spark up if Turner continues to play well.
